Holly’s reputation was in tatters.  She believed she had fallen in love with a duke only to find that the man was a rake.  Distraught by the tawdry affair she wonders what was in store for her now.  Who would want to marry a ruined woman?

She meets the charming captain and he hands her a lifeline, which she cannot refuse.  She knows marrying him is folly but she sees this as her chance to start her life again and perhaps on his schooner bound to the Caribbean she might forget her terrible experience.
